William Dunlap McClelland, sixty-two years old, a resident of   Montgomery County all his life and a man prominent in   Crawfordsville for years, died at seven this morning at his home,   207 Whitlock Avenue, after a lingering illness of several weeks.   He had been in failing health for the past few years and had been   forced to give up commercial pursuits a number of years ago. His   suffering with rheumatism grew worse during the past few weeks   and his death had been expected for several days.

Mr. McClelland was born at Yountsville in this County, June   27, 1852. He was a son of Dr. Alfred and Mary A. McClelland.   While a young boy he came to Crawfordsville with his parents and   he has made this city his home during the remainder of his life   except for a brief period in Indianapolis. Educated in the   Crawfordsville public schools, he entered the Miami Medical   School at Cincinnati, graduating in 1875. He then returned to   this city, entering into the employment of his brother-in-law,   Noah E. Myers, in the dry goods business and continuing in this   work for a number of years.

Following this he established an undertaking business in   Indianapolis selling out his business there after a few years to   establish a similar line of work here. For years he was one of   Crawfordsville's prominent funeral directors, remaining in this   business until failing health forced him to retire.

The deceased was prominent in the public life of   Crawforsdville serving as a member of the city council seven   years, from 1902 to 1909. He was an active Republican. He was   affiliated with the Elks and I. O. O. F. lodges here for many   years.

Mr. McClelland was married to Miss Cordelia Carroll in   Cincinnati in 1875, her death occuring a few years after their   marriage. To them was born one son, Alfred P. McClelland, who   resides in this city. The deceased was married to Miss Ella   Mitchell, of Frankfort, May 6, 1886, who is left to mourn his   loss. Mr. McClelland's sister, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Myers, who had   always resided in this city, died a few months ago.

Funeral services will be conducted at the residence at 2:30   Thursday afternoon with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Services   will be in charge of Rev. W. W. Speer of Advance, a relative of   the McClelland family. The family has requested no flowers be   sent.
